The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted Draft Law #2553 regarding the transition to natural gas accounting in energy units (Draft Law) in the second reading.
The implementation of this decision will bring the national legislation’s norms closer to European standards as well as contribute to fulfilling Ukraine’s obligations under the Energy Community Treaty and the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
The Chamber participated in the discussion on this legislative initiative in the course of its preparation and delivered the position of the Chamber member companies’ experts to the MPs. The Chamber proposals were taken into account in the final version of the Draft Law.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine welcomes the adoption of Draft Law #2553 and hopes for further improvement of the Ukrainian natural gas market rules, aimed at its integration with the EU gas market, which would strengthen competition and allow to attract new market players to Ukraine.
At the same time, the Chamber understands the importance of proper and effective implementation of these adopted legislative changes, and therefore will be closely monitoring the situation with practical implementation of the norms of the new Law after its signing and entering into force.
