The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine welcomes adoption of Draft Law #0029 “On Ukraine's Accession to the Seed Schemes for Varietal Certification of Cruciferous and Other Oil or Spinning Seeds of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development” by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Once signed and entered into force, proper implementation of this Law will enable seeds certification according to international standards. This, in turn, will improve quality of Ukrainian seed, its competitiveness on foreign markets as well as will help to meet export demand and open new markets for Ukrainian farmers.
Experts of the Chamber Seeds Committee have been actively advocating the adoption of Draft Law #0029 which will ensure Ukraine’s equal partnership on the global market of agricultural seeds. Chamber Seeds Committee has also highlighted the importance of this step in its publication “Seeds in Ukraine’s Economy” demonstrating high potential of the Ukrainian seed industry in terms of production and export. The ratification of Ukraine’s accession to the OECD Seed Schemes for varietal certification was mentioned in this brochure as an important factor for eliminating trade barriers and boosting international cooperation. The business community is looking forward to proper practical implementation of Law’s provisions.
