Policy Progress: The Government Postponed Medical Examinations for High-Risk Workers during Quarantine

The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine welcomes the Government's decision to postpone obligatory medical examinations for specific categories of workers. The respective decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine was introduced by its Resolution #343 dated May 4, 2020. According to the Resolution, workers engaged in heavy works, works with harmful or dangerous working conditions, are exempted from the obligation to undergo preliminary and periodic medical examinations for the period of quarantine and for 30 days after its completion.

It is a crucial step towards fixing an issue that has arisen due to the lack of legal grounds for postponing the terms of medical examinations during quarantine or a separate procedure for its passage for workers performing high-risk works. Thus, it was not possible to involve in high-risk works the employees, who according to their job description must perform high-risk works and did not pass the medical examination within the time limits prescribed by law.

Experts of a number of Chamber Committees stressed the need to develop such amendments, postponing medical examinations due to nationwide quarantine, and now would like to thank the Cabinet of Ministers for this decision.
