Policy Win: Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade Cancels Application of Special Measures on Import of Wires to Ukraine

Policy Win: Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade Cancels Application of Special Measures on Import of Wires to Ukraine

On October 11, 2021, the Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade (the Commission) canceled the decision #СП-491/2021/4411-03 dated April 23, 2021 "On the Application of Special Measures regarding Imports into Ukraine of the Wires Irrespective of Country of Origin or Export" (the decision) .

AmCham members support the cancellation of the decision. The business community has repeatedly asked the Commission not to take decisions on the application of special measures in the form of special duties as a result of a special investigation on imports of wires into Ukraine, regardless of country of origin and export. The potential introduction of additional import duties would have been an additional burden on the telecommunications and energy sectors, subsidizing other sectors of the economy.

As a result of the review of the decision, the Commission stated that national interests do not require the application of special measures and adopted the decision # СП-510/2021/4411-03 dated October 11, 2021, that canceled the Commission's decision #СП-491/2021/4411-03 dated April 23, 2021 "On the Application of Special Measures regarding Imports into Ukraine of the Wires Irrespective of Country of Origin or Export".

AmCham members are grateful to the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the Ministry of Economy for initiating the decision's review, which led to its cancellation.
