Online Meeting of the Business Resilience & Industrial Security Hub "Reputational Risk Management: How to Protect Business from Crises and Defamation"

Date:
July 9, 2026
Time:
11:00AM - 1:00PM
Place:
Online
Start:
Online Meeting of the Business Resilience & Industrial Security Hub

Nowadays, a single post by a former employee, an executive’s emotional comment on LinkedIn, a dispute with a business partner, or even a leaked private message can cost a company the trust it has spent years building. Today, defamation (the spread of false information) extends far beyond the media sphere and has become a daily risk for business owners, top management, and company employees.

The session will explore real-life cases and legal pitfalls in business communication across social media, internal comments, and public disputes between companies. Participants will learn how to protect the company’s reputation and avoid becoming the subject of defamation claims themselves, which can cost a business its credibility, finances, and reputation.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • Can legal claims arise from comments on LinkedIn or other social media platforms?
  • Where is the legal boundary between personal opinion and false information?
  • Which statements about competitors, partners, or former employees may create legal risks?
  • Why are phrases like “fraudster,” “thief,” or “criminal” rarely considered mere value judgments?
  • Can a company be held responsible for statements made by its employees?
  • What legal remedies are available when false or damaging information is spread anonymously?
  • How should reputational risks be managed when negative information has already reached clients, partners, or the bank?
  • When can the removal of information be requested, and when can formal recognition of falsity and retraction be pursued?
  • Can a legal entity claim compensation for reputational damage or loss of goodwill?
  • What is more effective in reputational disputes: litigation, negotiations, or PR?

Speaker: Alena Bodnar, Senior Lawyer, Advocate in Dispute Resolution Practice, Miller Law Firm.
