The Digital Legal Aid Platform (edopomoha.org) aimed at providing legal support to Ukrainians around the world. It was created by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) with the support of the European Union and the USAID's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance.
EVERLEGAL team had been collaborating with the DRC on the Platform elaboration for months and on May 11 the official presentation was conducted. The Platform provides modern, high-quality, fast and convenient legal support to Ukrainian citizens wherever they are.
Among the launch event participants were representatives of non-governmental organisations, government agencies and international organisations, who discussed the importance of legal aid and digital tools in protecting the rights of the conflict-affected population in Ukraine and abroad.
The event began with welcoming speeches by the Country Director of the Danish Refugee Council in Ukraine Julian Zakrzewski, the Head of the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Roman Romanuk, the Advisor to the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Serhii Nizhynskyi, and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Andrea Trevisan.
Isaac Robinson, Legal Aid Manager at DRC, presented the vision of the Platform and its main benefits. Then, Natalia Madzigon and Oleksandr Hlotov, DRC Platform Coordinators guided all through the platform’s functions. The core goal of the Platform is to make free legal assistance more convenient and rapid.
The event also featured a panel discussion on the role of free legal aid and digital tools in protecting the rights of the conflict-affected population, moderated by Isaac Robinson and attended by representatives of NRC, R2P, the State Labor Service, the Protection Cluster and the NGO Europe without Barriers.
"It's incredible to see how months of hard work by the DRC and EVERLEGAL teams have materialized into a product that can help a wide range of Ukrainians in this difficult time. In my opinion, the main advantage of this project, among other similar ones, is that it will allow access to free legal aid not only for vulnerable categories of the population, whose assistance is primarily provided by humanitarian organizations, but also for anyone who needs it, in a convenient and fast format," Svitlana Teteria, Counsel at EVERLEGAL.
EVERLEGAL is committed to supporting initiatives that promote access to justice and human rights. We are proud to have participated in the launch of the Digital Legal Aid Platform and look forward to continuing to support DRC in this important activity.
