The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine welcomes passing Draft Law #2693-d "On Media" (Draft Law) in the first reading by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on August 30, 2022.
The Draft Law envisages the following:
- implementation of the provisions of the EU's Audiovisual Media Services Directive;
- reduction of the influence of private interests and introduction of level regulatory field for all types of media;
- introduction of co-regulation by the regulator and media industry;
- strengthening of Ukraine's information security.
The Chamber Media & Communication Committee experts support Draft Law #2693-d in general and welcome the introduction of the proposals of the business community on the scope of application of the law, weakening certain restrictions for thematic channels, and revising liability for breaching the law. At the same time, certain provisions of the Draft Law need to be finalized before the second reading.
