The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine today presents the latest results of its Survey. After six months of the war, the business community continues to operate in Ukraine. 72% of AmCham Ukraine member companies are fully operational, 27% continue to work partially.
96% of companies plan to continue operations in Ukraine in 2023, while 4% don't know yet.
AmCham Ukraine member companies continue to pay salaries after six months of war. 83% pay full salaries, and 16% – have reduced salaries. Only 1% could not pay salaries at all.
The business representatives were asked to indicate the biggest current challenges for their organizations. Safety and security of employees (71%), logistics and transport (44%), absence of clients or orders (34%), decline in partners' businesses (33%), and export-import operations (22%) were identified as the top-5 major challenges.
22% of respondents indicate that their company's plants/factories/facilities/storehouses/offices have been damaged: 48% of them have minor damage, 52% – have unrepairable damage. 6% indicate that their company's assets are still under occupation. 69% of member companies had so far no damage during six months of the war.
The business community identifies the Ukrainian Government's top-3 priorities to boost post-war economic recovery and transformation after Ukraine's victory. Among them:
- Ensure Ukraine's national security and defense, in cooperation with international allies (79%);
- Implement rule of law, real and effective judicial reform, fair justice, ensure a transparent selection of judges at all levels. Adhere to the independence of the National Bank, the Antimonopoly Committee, and the anti-corruption agencies. Reform state-owned enterprises and state-owned banks (77%);
- Accelerate Ukraine's membership in the European Union by approximating national legislation in competition, customs, healthcare, IPR, media, and other spheres (37%).
87% of respondents support the encouragement of talents to live, work, and invest in Ukraine through the liberalization and modernization of labor legislation.
68% of the Survey respondents are currently located in Ukraine; 32% are still abroad. The majority of AmCham member companies (56%) have around 75% of their staff currently based in Ukraine. 14% of members have around 50% of staff in Ukraine, 13% - 85-90%, 11% - 95-100%.
As for Ukraine's business climate forecast by the end of 2022, 60% believe it will remain unchanged, 31% believe it will deteriorate, while 9% indicate that it will improve.
117 CEOs and top managers of AmCham member companies took part in the Survey, conducted from August 18 – August 23, 2022. 84% of the respondents are CEOs, 16% – top managers.
