The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine welcomes publishing of the Draft Order "On Amendments to Paragraph 1 of the Rules on Using of Units of Measurement and Spelling of Names and Designations of Units of Measure and Symbols of Quantities" on the official website of the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture.
Amendments to paragraph 1 of the Rules, approved by Order #914, are an extremely important step that will ensure consistency with legislative requirements and allow business entities to implement measures on the application of unit designations on product labelling, as has been repeatedly emphasized and endorsed by the Chamber.
The proposed change implies that the international designation of units of measurement is applied to the labeling of products available on the Ukrainian market (using the Latin or Greek alphabets). At the same time, the Ukrainian unit designations (using the letters of the Ukrainian alphabet) may be used on the labeling, unless otherwise provided by law. Also, the business entities have discretion to make a decision on the sequence of unit designations.
The Chamber welcomes this step of the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture and stresses the urgent need to adopt mentioned amendments.
