The Leading Arbitration and Sanction Professionals Deliver Educational Training to the Ukrainian Judges on Nationalisation, Sanctions and International Arbitration Due to Russia’s Aggression Against Ukraine

On 27 September 2024 the Supreme Court hosts a seminar "Nationalisation, sanctions and international arbitration: the consequences of the Russia's aggression against Ukraine". The event, initiated by the Ukrainian Bar Association, the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine, the Civil Cassation Court of the Supreme Court, will be held with the support of the Embassy of the United States of America in Ukraine. The event is organised by the Supreme Court, Asters and A&O Shearman law firms. 

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Ukrainian Government has taken measures aimed at imposing sanctions against Russia, nationalising the assets of sanctioned persons, and temporarily seizing assets controlled by foreign entities or individuals. The Ukrainian court system plays the key role on issues related to the application sanctions and nationalisations both directly by making decisions on asset seizures and indirectly by reviewing the legality of asset seizures and the application of public policy to such assets.   

During the seminar, leading experts from Ukraine, the US and the UK will share their experiences on the approaches and practices of foreign countries that have faced similar challenges, as well as international investment arbitrations and national courts. Speakers of the event:
