Ongoing dialogue around Ukraine’s current renewable energy sector challenges

The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine is currently in active dialogue with the Prime Minister, Energy Ministry, Presidential Office, Parliament, and key stakeholders in regards to the situation around renewable energy. Any retrospective decision by Ukrainian authorities on renewables will damage the trust of international investors in Ukraine. Protection of investor rights and the sanctity of contracts are essential for international investors in Ukraine to maintain trust. The trust of international investors is a must-have not only for the renewables industry, but also to ensure a successful near-term privatization process, launch of concession projects to rebuild Ukraine’s infrastructure and key to attracting the $50 billion in foreign direct investment declared and widely publicized.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine (AmCham) welcomes the Prime Minister’s initiative to hold a constructive dialogue with the business community that he announced at the October 29 Re:Think: Invest in Ukraine forum this week in Mariupol, Ukraine. The AmCham Executive Committee and invited guests met with top government officials in a meeting on October 31 that was chaired by Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk, with discussions led by Energy Minister Oleksiy Orzhel and Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Yuliya Kovaliv. The participants, including key international renewables investors and IFIs are committed to work together with government officials to find a solution acceptable to all parties.
