Citi Ukraine continues to cooperate with the Peli can live Foundation as part of the Home Again project. The bank provided a grant of 500 thousand dollars to build housing for internally displaced persons who lost their homes due to the Russian occupation.
The project participants are 11 families from the occupied territories of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv and Kherson regions. 47 people, including 16 children, will receive ownership of modular houses in the Boryspil district of the Kyiv region. 9 families will receive housing in the Studenykivka community, 1 family will live in the village of Vovchkiv and another family will live in Yagotyn.
The number of family members will determine the number of rooms in the house they will receive. The grant provides for the complete interior arrangement of houses to make them as comfortable as possible for living.
"Home Again" is an important project for Citi, helping us solve humanitarian challenges. It remains a significant priority for us. This initiative is not only about building housing, but also about creating a sense of security. We believe that the creation of new housing is a necessary step in the reconstruction of Ukraine and helping displaced Ukrainians return and rebuild their lives," said Alexander McWhorter, Citi Country Officer for Citi Ukraine.
Modular homes are a universal approach to solving residential needs. House blocks are manufactured at the factory, and assembled directly on site. Such construction is innovative and fast. Peli can live and City Ukraine already have experience in the construction of modular housing in the Chernihiv region.
In 2023, thanks to a grant from Citi Ukraine, it was possible to restore housing for 10 families in the Chernihiv region. 10 modular houses were built for 30 people who lost their homes due to hostilities in 9 settlements in the Ivaniv, Kyiv, Ichnyansky and Novobilousk united territorial communities of the Chernihiv region.
"This year's project is an ambitious challenge for us. The peculiarity of Home Again II is that Peli can live assisted project participants in obtaining land ownership and creating infrastructure. The grant from Citi Ukraine fully covers the manufacture of houses, which greatly facilitates the arrangement of new housing for our participants. The families of the project have gone through difficult trials and are looking forward to starting a new life in their own home," said Yana Bobrova, Executive Director of the Peli can live Foundation.
Since February 2022, Citi and the Citi Foundation have donated more than $6.5 million to support humanitarian initiatives, including reopening schools, providing legal and psychological advice to women, and helping Ukrainian refugees find safe havens in other countries.
