Sayenko Kharenko’s partners Oleksiy Koltok, Sergiy Smirnov, and Olena Sukmanova, together with counsel Zlata Simonenko, have become experts on the project “Analysis and evaluation of judicial practice regarding war crimes, collaborationism” by SAFE Ukraine 2030.
A methodology for analysing court cases will be prepared for the project. The specified analysis will be conducted directly, considering the field’s recognised international recommendations/practices. Relevant case law of other countries will also be studied, and expert consultations will be held with human rights defenders of the judicial corps, investigators, and parliament representatives.
The results of the conducted analysis and consultations will be formalised into recommendations, presented, and transferred to the relevant state authorities working on the investigation and trial of war crimes and collaborationism, as well as those bodies responsible for improving legislation in the field. In particular, the specified recommendations and results of the analysis will be presented to human rights defenders and other stakeholders, whose efforts aim to ensure the certainty of a proper investigation of war crimes and collaborationism in Ukraine.
The project is funded by grants from the International Renaissance Foundation, one of the largest charitable organisations in Ukraine that provides funding to NGOs, philanthropic foundations, and civic initiatives.
Safe Ukraine 2030 is a non-governmental organisation that created the first specialised non-governmental Platform for developing Ukraine as a secure state. The organisation combines the expertise of five specialised NGOs that share common principles, goals, years of experience in various areas of security management and a single mission: to build a safe Ukraine – with all and for all who respect its independence and democratic path and work for its prosperity.
