The Ukrainian Red Cross is the country's largest humanitarian organization, whose work affects the lives and well-being of hundreds of thousands of people caught up in dire circumstances. As Ukrainian cities and towns, especially those near the frontline, come under constant shelling, we are committed to providing communities with protective measures, such as mobile shelters. After all, the right to safety is the right of every person, regardless of the conditions in which they find themselves. For the Ukrainian Red Cross, human safety is of the utmost priority.
That is why between 2023 and January 2024, the Ukrainian Red Cross installed 19 mobile shelters in the communities of Kherson Oblast, in such settlements as Chornobaivka, Bilozerka, Stanislav, Dariivka, Kherson, Tomyna Balka, Sofiyivka, Oleksandrivka, Novovorontsovka, Kreschenivka, Osokorivka, Ingulets.
These shelters are anti-shrapnel civil defense structures made of reinforced concrete that will help protect people in public places from injury during shelling, as they are installed near healthcare facilities, markets, bus stations, public transport stops, and administrative services. Each structure has an area of 10 m² and can accommodate about 10-15 people inside. Another 11 shelters are planned to be installed as part of this project, but the total estimated need is over 100 units.
