On June 30, 2021, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted Draft Law #2289 amending Article 4 of the Law “On Pesticides and Agrochemicals” regarding import of new pesticide samples into the customs territory of Ukraine for state testing and research (Draft Law).
The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine welcomes the adoption of the Draft Law #2289. Amendments, introduced by this Draft Law, give full access for Ukrainian farmers to innovative crop protection products (CPPs) that was blocked during last five years.
The Draft Law is targeted at:
- producing of high-quality and safe agricultural products;
- increasing the competitiveness of the agricultural sector;
- filling the state budget by revenue from taxes and customs duties;
- attracting direct investments in Ukraine’s economy as well as companies’ investment in research in the field of CPPs.
Experts of the Chamber Seeds Committee have been supporting the adoption of Draft Law #2289 by drawing the attention of responsible state authorities to an import issue of innovative CPPs in respective Chamber Position Papers and business community’s statements.
The Chamber looks forward to the prompt signing of the respective Law by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the President of Ukraine as well as further publication of its official text.
