Mykolaivvodokanal Municipal Enterprise is beginning to implement its 2024-2025 Priority Action Plan for Mitigating Corruption Risks. This plan includes changes in corporate governance, internal and external audit functions, the management of communally owned property, as well as reporting and procurement policies.
Lawyers from Vasil Kisil & Partners, in collaboration with the Corporate Governance Professional Association (CGPA), have developed a Roadmap for the enterprise aimed at improving corporate governance. The Roadmap includes recommendations to define the enterprise's long-term goals, establish a professional and independent supervisory board, and introduce an internal control system, risk management, and other tools for effective corporate governance.
The Roadmap was developed with the support of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative (EUACI), the leading anti-corruption support program in Ukraine funded by the EU and co-funded and implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
“Efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability in Mykolaivvodokanal’s operations not only impact the reputation of the enterprise but also reflect on the city and, consequently, the country. This is particularly important given the unique and longstanding partnership between Denmark and Mykolaiv. Implementing elements of corporate governance is a tool that can enhance the management standards of the enterprise and build trust among all stakeholders,” emphasized Taras Sluchyk, Team Lead of the Integrity Cities component of the EUACI.
The Vasil Kisil & Partners project team included Volodymyr Igonin, Partner, Artem Shmatov, Senior Associate, and Olha Lynnyk, Associate.
“When the enemy destroyed the water duct, even the best corporate governance could not turn technical water into potable water. However, a professional and independent supervisory board, along with other tools, will help to develop and implement an effective strategy. We appreciate EUACI for trusting us and for their ongoing support for projects that benefit Ukraine,” said Volodymyr Igonin.
