The Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS), in cooperation with its partners, has restored the water supply system in the village of Babyntsi, Kyiv region. This project secures reliable access to high-quality drinking water for local households, as well as a school, a kindergarten, and a local outpatient clinic. Total investment in restoring the village's critical infrastructure reached approximately 17.7 million UAH.
The major overhaul of the network was carried out within the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ukrainian Red Cross and the Bucha City Council, with financial support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and Arcadia.
During the Russian occupation in the spring of 2022, the local water supply network sustained significant damage. To address this issue, two water intake wells with pumping stations were constructed in the settlement, a water tower was installed, and a modern modular water treatment and iron removal system was set up. The project also included laying new utility networks and fully restoring the surrounding grounds.
The upgraded infrastructure is designed for at least 50 years of reliable operation. It now provides drinking water not only to more than 3,500 local residents, but also to people in nearby settlements, as well as over 380 internally displaced persons who have found shelter in the community.
This project is a successful example of coordinated efforts, where international donors, the humanitarian sector, and municipal authorities work together to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions for remote communities.
