AmCham Ukraine continuously supports legislative and regulatory initiatives, which will help to attract new investments in Ukraine. In this regard, the adoption of Draft Law #8191 “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine regarding Extending the Commissioning Period of Renewable Energy Facilities under Contracts for the Purchase and Sale of Electric Energy at the "Green" Tariff Concluded by December 31, 2019” (Draft Law) is essential to ensure current investors that they will have an opportunity to finish the construction of respective renewables projects.
According to the information from AmCham member companies, by the end of 2022, national and foreign investors planned to build and commission wind power plants in Ukraine with a total installed capacity of about 800 MW. Russia's full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine didn’t allow investors to complete the relevant projects by the end of 2022.
Noteworthy, because of the delays in the Draft Law’s consideration, at this stage Draft Law must be amended as the previous contracts for purchasing and selling electricity and technical conditions expired in December 2022.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine calls the Members of the Parliament to start considering the Draft Law as soon as possible and adopt it as a Law, taking into account the business community’s position. This will allow businesses to finish wind power plants’ construction and strengthen Ukraine’s energy independence.
