For 106 years, we have been by the side of Ukrainians. On April 18, 1918, the Ukrainian Red Cross was founded, with the core of its activities being helping those who need support the most.
During these 106 years, we have catered to the needs of the most vulnerable, supported, empowered, helped, responded to emergencies, and informed and educated people to prevent accidents and save lives. These have been 106 years of compassion, humanity, and openness. One hundred and six years of development, improvement, organizational capacity building, and expansion of the areas of assistance to reach even more people in need.
Priorities of the Ukrainian Red Cross include:
- Comprehensive support for internally displaced people
- Evacuation of the population from dangerous areas
- Transportation of people with limited mobility and people with disabilities from settlements where active hostilities are ongoing
- Delivery of humanitarian aid to settlements affected by the humanitarian crisis
- Supporting the population in recently liberated territories
- Training people in first aid, mine risk education, and psychosocial support for affected families
- Construction of shelters
- Helping people prepare for the winter
Through our Recovery activities, we have restored over 6,500 m² of window structures, repaired over 2,000 meters of high-voltage power lines, purchased and delivered materials to restore 15,000 meters of trolleybus lines in Chernihiv, and repaired 29 community centers in Lviv, Zakarpattia, Cherkasy, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and Kyiv regions.
The Shelter program offers financial compensation for housing and utility services to private households that have sheltered internally displaced persons from the temporarily occupied territories or areas of active hostilities. More than 200,000 households have already been registered and have sheltered 4.2 million people, with a total amount of UAH 2.7 billion planned for disbursement.
Through the Winterterization program, we have delivered more than 29,000 wood-burning stoves to communities in Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Kyiv oblasts. We delivered 4,000 electric heaters to communities in Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Rivne, Ternopil, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytsky, Volyn, Zakarpattia and Chernivtsi regions. Over 872 generators with a total capacity of over 22 MW have been distributed among 35 train stations, 20 hospitals, 2 water facilities, and many collective centers.
In the two years of war, we have already supported more than 12,500,000 Ukrainians. This has been possible thanks to the joint efforts of humanitarian and charitable organizations, businesses and donations from people worldwide. We know what is needed and have an action plan to overcome the humanitarian crisis.
For 106 years, we have stood with those in need!
