The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine (the Chamber) supports all the efforts of the Ukrainian and Polish state authorities to resolve the issue of queues at automobile checkpoints on the western border.
In this regard, the Chamber also addressed the Polish side with a request to support and assist in increasing the transport potential of checkpoints and reduction in border control time by implementing the common concrete steps, namely:
- To increase the number of employees of customs and veterinary and phytosanitary inspectors;
- To improve and speed up the performance of the Polish control authorities based on the preliminary sorting of goods for the cargo vehicles by the Ukrainian side;
- To promptly exchange information on the number of registered vehicles and the available possibilities for their registration depending on the type of cargo;
- To reduce additional control procedures (sampling, laboratory tests) at the border or transfer them to the customs control zone closest to the border;
- To allocate additional checkpoints for the passage of empty vehicles leaving Ukraine;
- To join efforts for opening as soon as possible the “Nyzhankovychi – Malhovice” and “Varyazh – Usmez” crossing points;
- To support the idea of carrying out control simultaneously by customs officers of Ukraine and the Republic of Poland.
The business community looks forward to continuing a constructive dialogue and calls on Ukrainian and Polish state authorities to resolve the queues issue at the Ukrainian-Polish border.
