Kyiv, Ukraine, 24 December 2021 — The Kyiv office of Baker McKenzie continues to cooperate with the Law Department of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and to contribute to the practical legal knowledge of its students. Baker McKenzie lawyers have held three courses for students in bachelor's and master's degree programs.
For the second consecutive year, Corporate M&A Partner Olha Demianiuk held an elective course on M&A transactions for students in the master's degree program of the Law Department. This is a practical course covering the life cycle of an M&A transaction (including structuring, due diligence, term sheet, sale and purchase agreement, shareholders' agreement and post-completion claims). The course consisted of eight lectures and seven seminars, and ran from September to December. Seminars were based on a practical case study of investors' acquisition of a minority stake in a family-owned pharmaceutical business.
In addition, for the third consecutive year, Baker McKenzie held a guest course within the master's degree program on Commercial Law for the Law Department of the university. As part of the course, lawyers from the Kyiv office taught three disciplines — compliance, labor and procedural law — which formed part of a course of lectures and seminars on the practical aspects of business law. The course consisted of 10 lectures and six seminars, which ran from September to November. The Baker McKenzie teaching staff this semester included Counsel Mariana Marchuk, Senior Associate Kseniia Pogruzhalska and Associate Anna Stepanowa.
Ario Dehghani, who joined Baker McKenzie as counsel and head of the Compliance & Investigations Practice in November 2021, continued for the third consecutive year to present the certificate course on Anti-Corruption Compliance in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Research and Education Centre at the university. The course consisted of 10 lectures and was focused on best practices, e.g., in the areas of compliance management systems, internal investigations and liabilities under the FCPA and the UKBA.
Ario also continues to teach the "German for Lawyers" course for the fifth consecutive year, which includes lectures and seminars on German law and German law terminology for bachelor students. Ario is also the co-director of the German Law Institute at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
The Baker McKenzie Kyiv office's collaboration with the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy has a long history and includes, as well as educational events, financial support for the annual publication of the Kyiv-Mohyla Law & Politics Journal.
