In a conversation like this, I immediately get in a defensive position , feel criticized.
Motivation and engagement are not high.
Instead, a leader can ask:
- What is the real challenge here for you?
- And what else? What was leading you to take this decision? How can I help? What or who can support you to bring the project back on track? What are three actions make the most sense right now?
- What can you do differently in your next project?
- In conversations using such question, we encourage learning and forward action.
