Knowledge Seminar "New Electricity Market and Opportunities for Industrial Consumers"

Date:
January 28, 2021
Time:
10:00AM - 12:00PM
Knowledge Seminar

As a result of introduction in Ukraine of a new electricity market model (Law "On the Electricity Market" #2019-VIII), its participants received a wide range of tools and a more flexible system for organizing of their activities. The new model introduced the following segments: bilateral contracts market, a day-ahead market, balancing and retail market.

The new market model allows to increase the competitiveness of consumers and optimize their costs for the purchase of electricity due to new opportunities on supplier change and independent participation in the market.

Obviously, along with the advantages provided by the new market model, market participants also face new risks associated with the suboptimal choice of the electricity purchase model, lack of experience of independent participation in the market, changes in legislation and market rules. Participants had an opportunity to discuss:

  • Legal overview of the main components of the new electricity market model, introduced in Ukraine and the conditions for market participants
  • The wholesale electricity market in Ukraine
  • Consideration of the impact of RES electricity share increase in the electricity system of Ukraine on electricity market price
  • The retail electricity market in Ukraine
  • Sequence and main criteria for consumer's decision on transition to independent participation in the electricity market or supplier's change
