The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine welcomes the decision of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Public Health, Medical Assistance and Medical Insurance (the Committee) that recommended to return Draft Law #2089 amending certain legislative acts of Ukraine on increasing access to medicines for citizens (the Draft Law) for improvement.
While sharing the objective of increasing the availability of quality and effective medicines for patients, Chamber member companies’ experts do not agree with the methods and means proposed by the mentioned Draft Law. On the one hand, they contradict international obligations of Ukraine, and, on the other hand – can lead to poor protection of intellectual property rights on Ukraine’s pharmaceutical market, which in turn may harm its perception by innovative manufacturers. Therefore, the Chamber will be looking forward to seeing the improved version of the Draft Law as well as providing respective comments and proposals thereto.
