US policy should match the spirit of American business in Ukraine

US policy should match the spirit of American business in Ukraine

Statement by the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine on the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion

On February 24, 2022, the world gave Ukraine three days. Today is one thousand four hundred and sixty-two days of Russia’s unprovoked full-scale war. Four years of sirens blaring and missiles overhead. Four years of shattered homes and stolen lives. Four years of Russia’s brutal full-scale invasion and four years of Ukraine standing, fighting, enduring.

Freedom is not free. Ukraine pays for it every single day. Defenders hold the frontline with unimaginable courage that inspires the free world. Employees serve in uniform. Colleagues have fallen. Families have been torn apart. Facilities have been damaged. Russia set out to erase Ukraine: to crush its sovereignty, to put its people into darkness, to shatter its economy.

Day by day, Russia continues to destroy and humiliate American businesses on the ground. Forty-seven percent of AmCham Ukraine member companies’ plants and facilities have been damaged. Thirty-eight percent of companies have had instances of employees killed.

Putin is not just attacking Ukraine – he is targeting American economic presence on Ukrainian soil. US brands are being hit to send a message to America. But those companies are still here – believing, investing, employing. US policy should match the spirit of US business on the ground in Ukraine. Putin must be stopped.

Four years in, Ukraine remains open for business. Despite relentless attacks, nearly half of those damaged businesses have already been fully rebuilt. Ninety percent of companies remain fully operational. They work through blackouts, recover after strikes, protect their teams. They pay taxes. They support communities. They keep Ukraine’s economy up and running. This is what true resilience looks like.

For four years, Ukraine has stood. For four years, Ukrainians have proven to be stronger than fear, stronger than darkness, stronger than the aggressor who believed Ukraine would fall in three days.

Kyiv stands. Ukraine stands. Business stands united with Ukraine.
