Ukrainian Red Cross Participated in the Ukraine Recovery Conference in London Discussing Business Involvement in the Country’s Recovery

The Ukrainian Red Cross continues to unite the world in helping Ukraine, reminding of the needs of Ukrainians and the importance of joint efforts to overcome the humanitarian crisis.

To this end, Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the National Committee of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, participated in the Ukraine Recovery Conference in London.

Recovery of Ukraine unites world leaders

The event brought together a narrow circle of leaders from around the world, ministers and representatives of 59 states, 32 international organizations and international financial institutions, more than 500 companies and 130 civil society organizations. The conference focused on mobilizing international support for Ukraine's economic and social stabilization and recovery from the war, including emergency assistance for immediate needs and financing the private sector's participation in the recovery process.

According to the Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross, it is vital to represent Ukraine's largest humanitarian organization at such a high level in the international arena: "We had the opportunity to get together with the leaders of many countries and discuss our joint steps for restoring Ukraine, helping people with the essential things today, and identifying priority areas for the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine.

In almost 500 days of war, we have already supported more than 12,000,000 Ukrainians. This has been made possible thanks to the joint efforts of the International Red Cross Movement, other humanitarian and charitable organizations, businesses, and donations from people worldwide. Today, we face new challenges in the south of Ukraine due to the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. However, we have a clear understanding of what is needed and an action plan to overcome the humanitarian crisis. Our partners and donors support us on our way of helping Ukrainians, and they are our backbone in every good deed.

I would also like to note that the key issue in the discussion was the mobilization of the public and private sectors to help Ukraine in stabilization and reconstruction on a large scale. Every day we work side by side with central and local authorities to address the population's current needs and focus our work on common humanitarian challenges. Such synergy is essential today because we are all working towards the same goal — to overcome the humanitarian crisis, rebuild a strong Ukraine and save the nation," said Maxim Dotsenko.

How businesses can contribute to the country's recovery

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Ukrainian Red Cross has been actively working, among other things, on rebuilding the country's social infrastructure and developing a framework for physical and psychological rehabilitation.

The rehabilitation center "Unbroken", built on the basis of the Lviv First Medical Union, has already opened its doors in Lviv and provides people from all over the country with prosthetics, physical rehabilitation, and psychological support.

There are also seven Centers for Psychosocial Support in Uzhhorod, Poltava, Khmelnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Ternopil, and Kamianets-Podilskyi, providing activities that support and care for the mental health of families affected by the war: group classes with elements of creativity, active games for children, family events, psychoeducational sessions (providing information on how to take care of yourself, which aim to restore a sense of security, improve emotional state and find ways to overcome stress in the future).

Given the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe, the population needs help every day, and the Ukrainian Red Cross calls on the business community to mobilize resources to support the affected people and invites them to join the country recovery programs, including supporting the development of rehabilitation infrastructure.
