European Commission adopted import restrictions for certain agricultural products: wheat, maize, rapeseed, and sunflower seed from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia from May 2 to June 5, 2023.
AmCham member companies are concerned about the risks related to the possible extension of the above-mentioned import restrictions for another term due to the current critical situation with the export of Ukrainian grain and oilseeds to the world markets. Inter alia, the volumes of grain and oilseed exported by maritime routes have been significantly reduced in May 2023 due to the unstable operation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative caused by continuous sabotage of vessels’ inspections by the Russian side at the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul as well as blocked operation of the “Pivdennyi” seaport in the framework of mentioned Initiative.
To ensure uninterrupted and continuous export of Ukrainian grain and oilseeds AmCham Ukraine calls on the European Commission to:
- not to extend import restrictions for wheat, maize, rapeseed, and sunflower seed from Ukraine to certain European Union member-states that last on June 5, 2023;
- review the requirement on separate storage during the transit of cargo with Ukrainian grain and oilseeds through the territory of Poland and Romania;
- remove all restrictions on seed trade and allow the import of wheat seed, maize seed, rapeseed, and sunflower seed.
AmCham Ukraine expresses its gratitude to the Government of Ukraine and the European Commission for the comprehensive and continuous support and all the efforts aimed at ensuring the export of Ukrainian agricultural products to the world markets.
