KI Insights, a newly launched analytical unit powered by the Kyiv Independent, is organizing monthly briefings on a hot political topic of the month.
Our upcoming monthly briefing will explore the key themes as Ukraine and its international allies prepare for a difficult winter and set out the challenges and opportunities in the months ahead. Despite increasing talk of a diplomatic solution, prospects for a ceasefire remain dim. Meanwhile, Russia continues to eke out battlefield wins and is returning to the geopolitical stage with a series of wins. Renewed attacks on the power grid raise the prospect of new refugee flows, putting pressure on European states, primarily the CEE. Several parties have begun preparing for the 2025 elections, hoping to leverage rising popular discontent. What are the technical hurdles to overcome, and how does a reinforced Office of the President's power vertical influence prospects? A financial crisis is looming. This will require either new rounds of Western support or the transfer of Russian assets (be it direct or de facto via debt instruments) – both are politically and technically complicated.
