Policy Progress: Ministry of Health Suggests Postponing Entry into Force of the National Essential Medicines List to January 1, 2018
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine (MoH) published Draft CMU Resolution "On Amendments to CMU Resolutions #333 dated March 25, 2009 and #1303 dated August 17, 1998". According to the suggested amendments, National Essential Medicines List (NEML) comes into force on January 1, 2018 within the requirement for healthcare facilities to procure medicinal products firstly to meet 100% need in medicines from NEML.
Till then MoH expects to train the specialists for calculating the need in medicinal products included to NEML, so that in October it will be possible to calculate the final amount of budget for meeting the need in medicines included into NEML, and will allow experts from Expert Committee on Selection and Use of Essential Medicines to estimate the possibilities of expanding the NEML.
Chamber Healthcare Committee experts are grateful to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for timely response to the difficulties with implementation of the National Essential Medicines List this year and fully support the postponement of its entry into force.
